Chapter 16: Daiva Asura Sampath Vibaga Yoga

Divine and Non-Divine Phenomena

Part of the Bhagavad Geetha — Complete Commentary by Guruji M. Mohan Sundar

Lord Krushna said, "one who is totally free from fear, has pure inner-self, meditating to know the principles of the Supreme Being so as to have proper concentration and positive attitude, controlling the senses; and worshipping the Supreme Being, the Gods and Gurus; performing Agnihothra and other good karmas, reading Vedas and other Scriptures; constant repetition of Divine Name (any Sanathana Name of the Supreme Being ); doing one's own allotted and accepted duties; tolerating the difficulties and sufferings, compassion through senses and body, not to harm the mind and body of others in any manner, talking wisely and sensibly; not being angry on those who have offended; detached in all actions in the sense dedicating all actions to God ; not to have deviation of mind, not to blame others, showing compassion to all the animals; and even though associated with senses, not getting attached to them, respectful towards authenticated scriptures and not to have silly, critical unwanted attitude towards them because down the ages tradition has proved the truth of scriptures. Forgiveness, courage and not to develop enmity towards others and not to have devote-full attitude towards one-self. These are all the divine qualities of a Sathwik person ( person of positive trait ).

Note: Krushna is saying not to become angry on those who have offended which does not mean meekness but to defend oneself if there is an unrighteous offensive action against the person. Self defence against the offensive action is not ruled out. This has to be kept in mind by the reader because Krushna is enlightening Arjuna to be offensive against the unrighteous enemy. Hey Arjuna, "Show-off, egoism, unwanted self- pride, anger, harshness and ignorance are all the traits of person's of demonical nature ( Thamo Guna )." Divine nature is conducive for attaining Moksha. And the demonical nature is for bondage. Hey Arjuna, do not be afraid, because you are born with divine qualities.

Note: Divine nature makes a person to purify his accumulated karma of innumerable births in order to evolve towards attaining Moksha. Moksha is to dissolve or disseminate the Individual Consciousness/ soul into the Universal Consciousness/Supreme Being/ GOD forever and never to return to the cycle of births and deaths. Arjuna in this world, human beings are created in two groups. The first one is of Divine qualities, and the other one is of demonical qualities. I have already said about divine qualities in human beings in detail. Now, I AM going to explain in detail the demonical nature of the other group. The people of demonical nature do not have any knowledge of positive approach and the concept of attaining Moksha. Therefore, they do not have purity either outside or inside. They are not interested in high thinking and positive actions and they are also not committed to truth. The people of demonical nature always claim that the world is self-born and there is no existence of God, and the living Beings have come into existence through male-female biological relation. Therefore, desire is the only cause for this and nothing else. They follow the mirage type of knowledge, and their intelligence is blunted and they are willing to do violent actions and they work for the destruction of the creation. They make pretentions and they indulge in fulfilling the demonic type of desires, create false tenets and follow them as if they are the better ones and as the truth. They revolve around negative thoughts throughout their life till their death. They are interested in fulfilling physical desires terming them as the real happiness. Thus, bound by hundreds of desires they develop anger, when their desires are not fulfilled, they show unjust behaviour and they believe money alone as the truth of life. They assume that they have achieved money and properties and crave for more and try to make a show-off of their wealth and further try to amass wealth. They feel, they have killed their enemies and also intend to kill all other enemies. They feel, they are the gods and all the wealth is meant for them, and they are the most powerful and think that they are happy persons ( for example Ravana and Duryodhana). Lord Shree Krushna continued, "Arjuna, further they feel, 'I am a very rich man, my family is a very big one, and there is no one equal to me. I perform Yagna, and I give charity, and I am responsible for all the happenings'. In this way, they are infatuated by the ignorance and remain in illusion, having caught in this poisonous worldly phenomena, they become more demonical and end up in serious hell ". Imagining themselves as supreme, these people perform Yagnas and Homas for the name sake without following principles laid down in the scriptures. They will be highly egoistic, powerful and showy, filled with desires, anger and hatred. Apart from this, they indulge in unholy activities and find reasons to hate others without knowing that they hate ME, who is in those bodies. I send these sinner and harmful people into this world again and again, making them to take birth in the demonical and tragic set-up. Arjuna, this foolish people will take birth again and again in demonical set-up and descend to darker and darker layers of creation. Vicious desires, anger and constricted mentality are the three doors to Hell. These three aspects drive the Individual Consciousness towards the darker and darker layers of the creation. Therefore, these three aspects has to be shunned. Arjuna, one who has shunned these three doors has to work for his spiritual evolution. If he does so, he will attain MY ABODE (Supreme Status/ Supreme Being). Any person acting irrelevantly according to his will, will not attain spiritual evolution, and also will not attain the Supreme Being. He will be devoid of THAT Supreme Bliss. Therefore Arjuna, follow the verified scriptures, and act accordingly so that your actions are in accordance with laws of nature and evolutionary in direction. HERE ENDS THE CHAPTER OF DIVINE AND NON DIVINE ASPECTS ( DHAIVA-ASURA SAMPATH VIBHAGHA YOGA ) Seekers seeing THAT ONE Supreme truth through different windows see it in a limited (partial) way and hence there is variation in their perception. But the one who is on the top of the roof (i.e., practising RIGHT spiritual practices ) sees the truth in 360° i.e., he perceives the truth wholistically and he alone knows the Supreme truth in toto.
